STEPS Home Care and the Garden Education Center
Announce First Annual
Grandma’s Family Recipe Contest
“Somehow we have to get older people back close to growing children if we are to restore a sense of community, a knowledge of the past, and a sense of the future.” Margaret Mead
Greenwich, CT — Mother’s Day is almost here providing a great reason to connect grandmothers with their grandchildren by entering the STEPS Home Care and Garden Education Center of Greenwich (GEC) Grandma’s Family Recipe Contest. Grandmothers and grandchildren will work together to choose a special family recipe to share, prepare and be judged by a panel of local chefs.
Greenwich grandchildren and grandmothers, wherever they may reside, are invited to enter the “Grandma’s Family Recipe Contest” and share their original, special recipe. The only requirement is that the recipe must contain some healthful fruit or vegetables. Anyone can help prepare the recipe if Grandma is unable to do so.
“We are excited to join forces with STEPS Home Care for this recipe contest which will culminate with an award ceremony at our Saturday, May 6th Gardener’s Market. The winning recipes will be prepared and judged by local chefs in advance. Winners will be showcased and awarded prizes at the GEC’s annual May Gardener’s Market,” said Meg McAuley Kaicher, GEC Board Member.
This contest coordinates with GEC’s Outreach programs for both Youth and for Seniors. GEC promotes healthy edibles in its Teaching Vegetable Garden and hopes to highlight fresh grown ingredients featured in some of the recipes. Likely many of the herbs and edible plants available for sale at MGM can be recipe ingredients.
Participants have a chance to win a Grand Prize of $100 along with bragging rights to friends and family as a featured recipe in a Mother’s Day column in the Greenwich Time. In addition, a collective recipe cookbook will be published and available for pre-sale at the May Gardeners Market.
